ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hello and welcome!

I'm Paula, a paper artist based in the beautiful seaside town of Bangor, in the heart of county Down. I work from my home studio, overlooking my garden, surrounded by piles of coloured paper and my beautiful collie at my feet - which is the perfect recipe for creating my artwork!

In my studio, I love to turn my original hand drawn artwork into intricate, hand cut paper cut-outs. My quirky take on this very old art form, is inspired by a combination of my love for colour, poetry, people & places with a touch of nostalgia. My only tools are paper, a scalpel and a pencil; making my artwork intirely by hand, keeps each piece an original one-off and as unique as the recipient.

I have recently completed an artists residency of four years with Project 24; Where I honed my skills as an artist and built up a portfilio of work. I have also been part of neumerous exhibitions; two of which were in Finland and Arizona!

I was recently thrilled to have one of my pieces selected by the Royal Ulster Academy of Art, for their annual exhibition at the Ulster Museum, Belfast. The piece, ‘Portrait of Frida’, was selected on the opening night by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland for their collection; much to my delight!

Sometimes, I also like to dabble with different mediums, such as, lino cuttings and screen prints; just to keep the creative fires burning! I find my artwork transfers well to these diciplines and its something I'd like to expand upon.

I am happy to consider ideas from people who would like to colaborate or commission me to make a piece - just get in touch.

I am now in the process of setting up local papercutting workshops; so please get in touch for details and dates, if it’s something you or a friend would be interested in taking part in. My first will be held on the 11th May 2019, at The Kitchen Academy, Bangor. Please get in touch if you’d like to ask about a place.

Thanks for reading,

Paula
